With our integrated video editor, you can create instructive tutorials, presentations, or other videos of your choice.

Where can it be found?

In the library

It is also possible to find the video editor by going to "Library" in the left menu and then to "Materials". Further up to the right, you will find a button "Add Materials". Click on the button and choose "Editable Video". Then enter the name of the video. If you click "Add & Edit Video" you will be directed to the video editor and can start editing your new video!

In the course builder

To begin with, you will find the video editor in the course builder. First, add a new activity. Name the activity and select a layout. Click on the plus sign and choose "Video" in the left menu. Click on "Video" and go to the “Add editable video” tab. Click "Add & Edit Video".

How to use the video editor

1. When you enter the video editor, you will enter the dashboard:

   
   

1. If you want to add a video or a picture you simply press the “Add” button. All pictures and videos added will be stored in “My media” for you to later use in the video if you’d like.

   
   

1. From “My media”, you can drag the video clip you’ve added down to the bottom of the page to the field called “Video 1” or “Video 2” to use it in your video.

   
   

1. To cut a video, hover over it and drag.

2. To split a video, click on the scissors in the blue menu.

   
   

Introduction

Screen recording

1. Click on “Record” in the top menu.

   
   

1. Choose “Screen”.

   
   

1. Choose the microphone.

   
   

1. Choose if you wish to share a window, tab, or full screen.

    

Audio recording

1. Click on “Narrate” in the top menu.

   
   

1. Click “Record”.

    

Adding text to a video

1. Press the “Text”-button on the top of the page in the video editor.

   
   

1. Choose what type of text you wish to add from the folders Premium, Free, or Callouts, and drag the text box down to the field called “Video 1” or “Video 2”. You are able to both add the text directly to the video or insert it before/after the video.

Settings on a specific video

1. Click on the video so that four symbols appear.

    

    

    

Subtitles

1. Enter the video editor and click Text → Free → Static and pull one of the subtitles boxes down to the timeline.

   
   

1. To edit the text, hover over the subtitle box and click on the pen.

   
   

1. Write your text and change its size, font, color, and more.

   
   

1. Change the length of the subtitle by hovering over the right border of the box and dragging it to the right or left to lengthen or shorten it.

   
   

Thumbnail

1. Enter the library and click “Actions” → “Change thumbnail”

   
   

1. Choose which part of the video you wish to set as a thumbnail and click “Set as thumbnail”.

Export audio

1. Enter the video editor

2. Click “Finish”

   
   

1. Choose “Audio only” and click “Export”

    

1. Your video should now be exported as an audio-only file and can be downloaded (however, if you open the video editor the videos will still be there).

Helpful tips

For optimal quality, we recommend that images are sized to at least 1024x768 pixels.

If you intend to export content in 1080p or 4K HD, we recommend the following minimum file size:

• Images: at least 2 MB

• Video clips: at least 1280x720 pixels at 24FPS

Video compression guidelines

It is possible to upload to Learnifier videos up to 5 GB.

Codec: H.264

A codec is the format in which your video will be encoded. Learnifier accepts most major video codecs, but for best results we recommend using H.264. If you’re making the video files yourself, please choose the High Profile H.264 setting instead of Main Profile for the highest quality. This option is not available in all video editors.

Advanced H.264 settings: To make your uploads extra smooth, choose the following advanced settings whenever possible.

• Closed GOP

• CABAC (to reduce your file size)

Here are some codecs that will not work on Learnifier: G2M2, G2M3, and Canopus HQ.

Frame rate: 24, 25, or 30 FPS (Constant)

Learnifier recommends uploading with frame rates of 24 (or 23.976), 25, and 30 (or 29.97). If you know the frame rate of your footage, it’s best to encode your final video at the same frame rate. However, if your footage exceeds 30 FPS (frames per second), you should encode your video at half that frame rate. For example, if you shot at 60 FPS, you should encode your final video at 30 FPS. If you’re uncertain what frame rate you shot at, set your frame rate to either “Current” or 30 FPS. If there is an option for keyframes, choose the same value you used for frame rate. Important: Always choose “constant” frame rate instead of “variable” frame rate.

Bit rate

Bit rate (also known as data rate) controls the visual quality of the video and its file size. The rate is most often measured in kilobits per second (kbit/s). If your video editing software gives you the option, choose a “variable” bit rate and set the target to at least 2,000 kbit/s for standard definition (SD) video; 5,000 kbit/s for 720p HD video; or 10,000 kbit/s for 1080p HD video.

Resolution

Common resolutions for SD video include 640 x 480 px (4:3 aspect ratio) and 640 x 360 px (16:9 aspect ratio). HD video is usually formatted at 720p (1280 x 720 px) or 1080p (1920 x 1080 px).

Editable video(s) do not support resolutions higher than HD.

Audio

Codec: AAC-LC (Advanced Audio Codec)

For best results, we recommend using AAC-LC (low complexity) for the audio codec.

Data rate: 320 kbit/s

For best results, encode your audio at a constant rate of 320 kbit/s.

Sample rate: 48 kHz

For best results, set your audio sample rate to 48 kHz. If your working setting is already less than or equal to 48 kHz, leave it as is.

Quality and Bitrate (kbit/s)
